What do dairy cows have to do with producing eggs?

Well believing in sustainable farming practices and self sufficiency like I do. It stands to reason that my family would have our own house cow (or two).
Each morning I get out of bed, grab a coffee and head to the milking shed. Sometimes my family is awake, often not. I milk out one (soon to be two) dairy cows before heading over to start the morning egg collection and chicken husbandry chores. If the milk (usually 20 litres) is not required for the house (yes we drink raw milk! no it’s not dangerous! no you can’t have any as the Government only “allows” Australian Citizens to drink raw milk from their own cows!) it gets poured into 20 litre food safe buckets and sat in the warm part of the shed to clabber.

So every other day I carry 20 litres of raw milk clabber from grass fed cows down to the paddock to feed 500 chooks. They absolutely LOVE it, and swarm me when they see me coming with the bucket. You might be thinking, but you can’t feed milk to chooks! What about the lactose and their little stomachs? Don’t worry! When milk clabbers the beneficial bacterias consume the sugars (lactose) as part of the fermentation process so it is essentially lactose free. What the girls are consuming is a very rich 100% natural source of calcium, protein, probiotics, vitamins and minerals. All of which boosts their immune systems, improves their digestion, and contributes to the quality of your eggs. Nothing but the best goes into producing a Mother Clucker Egg!

Everyone benefits

It takes more animals than just a chook to produce “a whole other egg”!

Did I mention clabber is a great moisturiser?
